MARBELLA, SPAIN — Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has appeared in a video from a luxury gathering in Marbella, Málaga, Spain, alongside prominent Nigerian figures, including politician Dino Melaye and businessman Ben Bruce, drawing strong reactions from Nigerians online.
According to a report by Legit.ng published on Saturday, September 19, the gathering took place at La Cabane, a Dolce & Gabbana venue in Málaga, during a welcome party ahead of the wedding celebration of Saraya and Bawa. Other Nigerians spotted at the event included socialite Terry Waya and Mrs Folake Oyemade.
The footage shows guests relaxing in an upscale setting, with luxury surroundings and expensive-looking accessories visible in some of the clips circulating online. The video quickly spread across social media, where some Nigerians focused less on the private event itself and more on what they said it represented about the lifestyle of influential Nigerians outside the country.
Newstridez reviewed the available footage and reports about the gathering and found no evidence in the material reviewed that public funds paid for the event or that any of the individuals shown used government resources to finance their attendance. The footage establishes their presence at the gathering, but it does not establish who paid for the event, travel or other personal expenses.

GovSpend records cited by Pulse reported that the Presidency spent about ₦37.64 billion on presidential trips, travel logistics, foreign exchange transactions and related expenses between June 2023 and April 2026.
The figure, however, relates to presidential and government travel expenses and does not establish that any money from that spending funded the Marbella event involving Aisha Buhari and other guests. No such connection appears in the sources reviewed for this report.
The distinction matters because social media discussions can easily combine separate issues. A video of former public officials attending a private gathering can generate legitimate questions about public perception, but the presence of public figures at an event does not by itself prove misuse of government money.

Atiku has used those pressures in recent political statements, including his September message after meeting Aisha Buhari. He said families were being stretched by rising costs and called for policies that would make Nigeria more affordable.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu‘s administration has continued to defend its economic reforms, arguing that difficult measures are required to address longstanding structural problems. The government has also faced criticism over spending, including official travel and other public expenditure.
