Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of security challenges, saying insurgent groups no longer control any part of Nigeria and that the era of frequent bomb attacks has largely reduced under the current administration.
Speaking on the state of security in the country, Akpabio said Tinubu had recorded noticeable gains despite ongoing attacks in some communities. According to him, the President deserves credit for efforts made so far, even though more work remains to be done.
Akpabio said there is currently no part of Nigeria where insurgents openly hoist their flags as seen during the peak of the Boko Haram crisis in previous years.
“He has done very well. There is no part of Nigeria today that you have the flag of any insurgents being hoisted,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President also noted that organized bomb attacks that once created fear across several parts of the country have reduced significantly. He, however, admitted that security threats have not completely disappeared.
According to him, insurgents now target what he described as “soft targets,” including schools, churches and mosques, where security presence may be limited.
Speaking further, Akpabio said Nigeria’s size and population often make security incidents appear widespread, even when attacks are happening in isolated locations.
He stressed that the National Assembly would continue to support the Tinubu administration in strengthening security operations and finding long-term solutions to insecurity.
Meanwhile, the Senate President disclosed that lawmakers are considering frameworks that could pave the way for state policing in Nigeria. According to him, discussions are ongoing on how to create a regulated state police structure that would work alongside federal security agencies.
His comments come at a time when concerns over insecurity remain high across different parts of the country. In recent months, there have been reports of attacks linked to bandits, kidnappers and insurgent groups in some northern states, keeping security among the top issues for many Nigerians.
For many citizens, security remains a major measure of government performance. While some Nigerians believe the situation has improved compared to previous years, others continue to call for stronger action against criminal groups operating in affected communities.
As debates continue, Akpabio maintained that the Tinubu administration has made progress and assured that lawmakers would continue working with the President to improve the safety of lives and property across the country.

None of you at the top talks about the innocent kids and adults abducted in Oyo State, not talking about how to get them out of the bandits den, all what you are after is how Tinubu will be re-elected again. Soon, power will leave you and by then, God will know how to deal with you.
@amos_onwukwe noted: We are now celebrating the method of death, not the fact that more people have died under this regime than the one he’s here trying to shade. Less flags hoisted, but more villages have been taken over by the marauders. These guys definitely live in an alternate reality and never cease to minimize evil.
@ElvynTate said: ISWAP attacked 4 military bases in 48 hours in May, A brigadier general was killed in Borno in April ,160 worshippers abducted in January.
Akpabio said that with a straight face.
The flags aren’t hoisted, the attacks never stopped.
