Tragedy on Third Mainland: Young Entrepreneur Dies as Car Plunges Into Lagoon, Family Slams ‘Paid Rescue’

Sharing Is Caring:

Aisha Maikudi Ibrahim’s life was cut short after her car somersaulted and fell into the Lagos lagoon, sparking public outrage over delayed, ‘commercialized’ rescue efforts.

The 27-year-old’s family had to pay divers N400,000 for recovery, prompting calls for emergency reform.

Nigeria mourns with tears and anger.

Hadiza Oyewumi (Aunt of the deceased) said:

“The circumstances of the crash remain unclear, but what is more painful is the response that followed. LASTMA and marine police were at the scene, but there was no meaningful rescue. It fell to local fishermen, who demanded money before acting. In their grief, the family paid — not to bargain, but to recover her body for a proper burial.”
