Addressing journalists at the National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu dismissed claims that the wave of endorsements for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election is driven by fear of opposition coalitions.
“No, no, no. I don’t think a party like APC has anybody to fear. We are the ruling party. We love Nigeria,” Kalu stated, highlighting the party’s confidence and commitment to nation-building.
Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission, pointed out that the Southeast APC caucus, led by Governors Hope Uzodinma and Francis Nwifuru, along with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, had endorsed Tinubu weeks before other regions.
He acknowledged the economic challenges Nigerians face but attributed them to necessary reforms. “Yes, people are suffering. But the effects of his policies are showing first at the macro level. It will soon reach everyone,” he said.
Kalu also defended Tinubu’s recent visit to the Vatican, stating it was at the personal invitation of Pope Francis, whom Tinubu had previously met in Chicago. “He could not disobey the Pope. About 1.8 billion Catholics, including me, would appreciate him for that obedience,” Kalu noted.
