Jos Attack Sparks Celebrity Clash: Cubana Chief Priest’s Controversial Take Puts Him On Blast

It was Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026. Around 7:30 in the evening, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was celebrating his 74th birthday with party loyalists, gunmen opened fire on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North, Plateau State. They cut down 28 people and left several others injured. It was a massacre. Raw. Brutal. And it shook the entire country.

By the time the dust settled, Nigerians were already on social media — grieving, angry, demanding answers. Then Cubana Chief Priest spoke. And everything shifted.

The celebrity barman and APC supporter, real name Pascal Okechukwu, took to his Instagram story with what he called a heartfelt reaction. He said he had been deeply unsettled since the incident. “I have been cold. In the past few days the video of that woman and her child can’t get out of my head. When will these killings stop? How do people desire happiness in killing one another. When will this ever stop?” he wrote.

So far, so good. That part, most Nigerians agreed with.

Then he went further. He subtly ridiculed Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for arriving in an armoured vehicle to visit the affected community, saying that a true leader must be willing to lay down his life for his people. Fair point, many said. But what came next? That was the grenade.

“I feel for everyone in Jos. This was clearly done to embarrass our president on his birthday,” he declared. He then urged security agencies to act, saying allowing such an incident to happen on his “principal’s” special day was its own kind of embarrassment. He capped it off with a prayer for Tinubu to have the energy to appoint capable leaders.

Nigeria’s internet didn’t just catch fire — it exploded.

People were furious. Twenty-eight people had just lost their lives. Families were shattered. A whole community was in mourning. And the conversation from one of Nigeria’s most visible socialites had somehow landed on — the president’s birthday?

Singer Skales wasted no time. He described Cubana Chief Priest’s remarks as delusional and questioned where the man’s conscience had gone, pointing out that actual human lives had been lost in the violence.

“This guy is delusional… I can’t believe he said that… life’s lost and all you care about is the president being embarrassed… I can’t believe you sat down and wrote this… where is your conscience… you have kids don’t you also,” Skales fired back directly on social media, tagging Cubana Chief Priest.

Nigerians ran with it. One user wrote that Cubana Chief Priest was clearly protecting his “pocket.” Another said it is better to stay silent than to open your mouth and remove every doubt. The comments kept pouring in, and very few were defending him.

This clash cuts to the heart of something bigger in Nigeria right now. When ordinary citizens are being buried, when grieving mothers are featured in videos circulating online, the expectation is that voices with platforms will speak for the people — not for political principals. Skales, a son of the north who understands what insecurity means up close, clearly felt that expectation had been violated.

The Jos tragedy deserves more than political framing. It deserves justice, accountability, and real solutions. The fact that a celebrity’s post about a president’s birthday managed to overshadow that conversation — even for one news cycle — says something about where we are as a country.

And Nigerians are tired of it.
