Court Sentences Eight for Vandalism in Yola

In recent Nigeria news, the Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, sentenced eight individuals to ten years imprisonment for vandalising airport electricity and telecommunication cables. Chief Magistrate Mohammed Njidda convicted them of criminal conspiracy, theft, and mischief. Each was jailed for seven years with a fine option, plus additional sentences for related offences.

Compensation and Ongoing Cases

The convicts were ordered to pay N4.033 million each in compensation for damages. While all pleaded guilty, one defendant, Augustine Stephen, denied the charges, and his case awaits ruling. Two others remain at large, connected to crimes committed in July 2024. Inspector S. S. Nicholas led the prosecution.
