Teen Jailed for Stealing Bluetooth Device as 40 Others Gain Freedom in Ebonyi

Sharing Is Caring:

Ebonyi State First Lady, Mary-maudline Nwifuru, recently paid fines for 41 male inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Centre in Abakaliki, securing their release. Among these, a 16-year-old boy was convicted for stealing a Bluetooth device. Mrs. Nwifuru urged the freed inmates to avoid crime to prevent returning to prison. Although the centre houses 1,265 inmates, only 31 are female and face serious charges like murder, thus not eligible for release. Freed inmate Nwafor Emmanuel, 26, praised Mrs. Nwifuru‘s gesture, recounting witnessing five deaths in prison and vowing to lead a crime-free life. This initiative provides hope and emphasizes rehabilitation over punishment. What measures can communities implement to prevent crimes among youths? Source
