Elon Musk announced that SpaceX has finished its first Starlink satellite constellation for direct-to-cell phone connectivity. This innovation allows unmodified cell phones to access the internet in remote areas without the need for cell towers. Read more here.
Despite the current bandwidth of just 10Mb per beam, Musk promises improved capabilities for future constellations. The announcement comes after a successful SpaceX Falcon 9 launch of 20 Starlink satellites. Starlink’s Direct to Cell technology works with existing LTE phones without needing hardware or software changes.
Texts will launch in 2024, with Voice, Data, and IoT features arriving in 2025.
