Nigerian content creators on Meta platforms will soon be able to earn up to N150,000 per 10,000 views on Facebook. Starting July 1, 2024, creators in Nigeria and Ghana can monetize their content through In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels. This initiative is part of Meta’s plan to support creators in over 30 languages globally.
In 2023, Facebook paid $10 to $19 per 1,000 views, unlike YouTube’s direct payment model, relying on an ad revenue sharing system. This means creators earn from the ad revenue around their content, where factors like audience demographics and engagement affect earnings.
Meta’s new venture, led by Sir Nick Clegg’s visit to President Tinubu, aims to enhance opportunities for Nigerian creators. However, creators must comply with strict policies and have at least 5,000 followers to be eligible. This rollout is seen as a breakthrough, as creators from Nigeria were previously unable to monetize through Facebook unless they managed a page in monetizable regions.
The move has sparked excitement among Nigerian creators, with Faith Chibuzor and others expressing the positive impact this will have on their engagement with the platform. This development aligns with Nigeria’s ambition to diversify into ICT, supporting federal job creation efforts.
