The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), backed by the Norwegian Government and in collaboration with Fistula Foundation Nigeria (FFN), organized free surgical procedures for 50 women battling Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) in Gombe State. This issue, which involves an abnormal connection between the bladder and vagina, leads to uncontrollable urine leakage. Held at Gombe Specialist Hospital, the surgeries have been deemed a significant success by Dr. Sa’ad Idris, the chief surgeon, bringing hope and potential health improvements to the afflicted women. FFN’s Ibrahim Abubakar emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative, particularly for women suffering due to difficult childbirths, early marriages, poverty, and inadequate health services in northern Nigeria. Such efforts aim to not only address health concerns but also improve women’s social well-being. For more information, visit the original source here.
