Federal Government’s N8.73 Billion Investment in Airport Power
In 2024, the Federal Government of Nigeria allocated N8.73 billion for enhancing power infrastructure at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. According to BudgIT’s report, this investment aimed at ensuring reliable electricity for the airport’s new international terminal. Budget allocations detailed in "BudgIT’s GovSpend" report, revealed the substantial costs involved.
Significant payments went to J. Marine Logistics Ltd, which provided outsourced power supply services. Expenditures included N5.67 billion for March to September 2023, N2.19 billion for power services from October to December 2023, and an additional N874.42 million for part-month coverage. Aviation expert Olumide Odunayo praised these efforts but highlighted the need for sustainable power solutions like solar or wind.
