Nigeria’s Cyber Risk Index Declines as Security Measures Improve

Sharing Is Caring:

Nigeria secured the 19th spot among the top 20 countries attacked by malware in November 2024, as reported by Check Point. While the country’s normalised risk index improved to 56.9% from 61.9% in August, African nations remain heavily targeted, with seven countries from the continent featuring in the top 20. The report highlights Ethiopia as the most attacked out of 107 surveyed countries. Zimbabwe and other African nations also faced significant threats, demonstrating a pressing need for cybersecurity enhancements across the region. Explore the report for more details here.

Androxgh0st emerged as the top malware family, significantly targeting critical infrastructure, notably IoT devices and web servers. Such assaults jeopardise vital systems like energy grids and healthcare, potentially triggering widespread chaos and financial damage. With Joker and Anubis prevalent in mobile malware, cybercriminals are continuously adapting their tactics. Thus, organisations must swiftly implement robust security measures, as emphasised by Maya Horowitz from Check Point Software. This situation underscores the importance of vigilance and immediate action to counteract evolving cyber threats.
