Sharing Is Caring:

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has intervened in the dispute between the management of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, and the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), urging peaceful resolution over withheld check-off dues. The conflict stems from the management’s demand for union constitutions, which COEASU has yet to provide, unlike other unions.

CHRAN’s Director, Franklyn Isong, appealed to all parties to end the rift for a smoother transition towards establishing the Akwa Ibom University of Education. Despite the tension, CHRAN praised the efforts of the State House of Assembly in ensuring the College’s upgrade aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda. More updates on this Abuja news story can be found here.

Key Takeaways:

  • CHRAN seeks a truce in the COEASU and college management dispute.
  • Check-off dues are central to the contention.
  • Akwa Ibom education policy developments are praised by CHRAN.
